  arp 288 is in the class of double galaxies with wind effects.  the atlas note says "streamers in both directions from edge of spiral".  the n spiral is ngc 5221 while the elliptical pair to the s is ngc 5222.  the ngc does not separate the s pair but they are given designations of vv 315a and vv 315c in the vorontsov-velyaminov catalog.  in this catalog, ngc 5221 is vv 315b.  the tiny patch of galactic material se of ngc 5222, touching the star, is considered a "wisp" or detached segment.
