Arp 224 consists of the large galaxy a little southwest of center, the small
galaxy about 2.5' NNE, and the tiny galaxy just west of the lower loop. It is in the
class Amorphous Spiral Arms. The Atlas note says "straight filament leads
to bright, offset nucleus". I can't see this in either the Atlas image or
mine, and I'm not sure exactly what it means. The bright, nearly edge-on galaxy
north and a little west on Arp 224 is NGC 3916. There are several MAC
galaxies in the field, and the western 80% of the field lies within Abell Galaxy
Cluster 1400.
In the negative image, you can see a very large
dust donut in the lower left corner of the field. It must have settled in
after I took my flats, because they don't remove it at all.
