arp 75 (ngc 702)

arp 75 is the group in the southeast (lower-left) corner of the image.  the edge-on galaxy with the bright core in the northwest corner is mcg 1-5-40.  arp 75 is in the class spirals with small hsb companions on arms.  the companion that dr. arp was considering is almost certainly the one about 1' due east of the core, because the atlas notes say "very faint extension to companion".  there appears to be another companion right in a bright part on the arm sweeping north and west, but that does not fit the note.  the extension is very faint, barely showing up in the negative image and, while more obvious, not prominent in the false color image.  the false color image does show two more arms, one terminating at a faint companion and another which does not terminate near any companion.  even with 71 minutes of exposure, the extension and arm are just above the noise level.
