Arp 242 is in the class Appearance of Fission. The Atlas note says "very
thin, bright tail from north nucleus which has strong absorption". The
absorption is not visible in my image and I find it hard to detect in the Atlas
image, but the tail is certainly obvious. This pair is a favorite of large
aperture visual observers because the impression in the eyepiece is very similar
to the image, except the north tail is shorter and the tail curving around to
the south is generally not seen.
