Arp 220 (IC 4553)

Arp 220 is the last member of the class Adjacent Loops. There is no Atlas
note. Several of the small galaxies south of Arp 220 are in the Mitchell
Anonymous Catalog (MAC) but are all outside the Atlas field. This image
shows an unusual double nucleus. That can't be seen in the Atlas image
because it was printed with too high a contrast. For a Hubble image, click
