Arp 185 (NGC 6217)

Arp 185 is in the class Narrow Filaments. The Atlas note is "condensed
nucleus. Faint outer arms less curved than inner arms". The outer
arms are barely visible in the positive image but they expand to almost a
complete halo in the negative image.
The detail image is a merger of 20 minutes with the StarlightXpress camera and 56 minutes with the Cookbook. It is heavily processed to show the faint outer arms. The arm exiting on the W side hooks back sharply to the N. The original Cookbook image can be seen on the Extras page.
