arp 16 (m66; ngc 3627)
arp
16 is the first of the messier objects to appear in the arp atlas. arp
classifies it as a spiral galaxy with detached segments. the atlas note is
"see also 317. large concentration at end of s arm". this is one of the
two images still included on the site which predates my real start date for this
effort. the image was acquired on a cold, windy night in february of 2003.
arp 16 (m66) is also included in the leo triplet, arp 317. m65 and ngc 3628 are the other two members of the triplet.
